Anders Fogh Rasmussen valiti NATO peasekretäriks

Tervitan Riigikogu aseesimehena täna valitud uut NATO peasekretäri, Anders Fogh Rasmusseni!  NATO on väärtustepõhine organisatsioon.  Euroopa Liberaalide Demokraatide ja Reformipartei aseesimehena on mul eriti hea meel, et valituks osutus liberaalse maailmavaatega inimene, kelle tegevuses Taani peaministrina  ja üldiselt Euroopa poliitika mõjutajana on näha, et ta lähtub väärtustest nagu demokraatia, põhivabadused ja inimõigused, vahetamata neid veendumusi odava peenraha vastu.

Leian, et Eesti seisukohalt valiti peasekretäri positsioonile väga õige persoon. Rasmussen on inimene, kes tunnetab kollektiivse julgeoleku tähtsust. Taani oli üks kõige kindlamaid Eesti toetajaid NATO liikmeks astumisel ja Anders Fogh Rasmussenil oli selles osas väga suur roll.

I applaud the appointment of Anders Fogh Rasmussen for the new Secretary General of NATO. NATO is an organization built on principles. As the Vice President of the European Liberal Democrat And Reform Party, I am especially pleased by the selection of a person who embodies liberal values. Mr Rasmussen´s tenure as the Danish prime minister and in European politics as a whole clearly shows that he is guided by the principles of democracy, basic liberties and human rights and does not waver from his convictions.

I believe that from an Estonian perspective, the choice of Secretary General is the right one. Mr Rasmussen appreciates the importance of collective security. Denmark was one of the staunchest supporters of Estonia´s joining NATO and Anders Fogh Rasmussen played a key role in that.
